Brussels Bans Use Of Digital Music In Nightclubs

The European Parliament are to announce a new Bill on Sunday which will in effect ban the use of any digital music in nightclubs, pubs or hotels. This includes the use of CDS, laptops using MP3s or Wav files or any other form of digital music.

The European Directive known as Article 45 or the Guetta Bill (named after famous French DJ David Guetta) was passed ostensibly in order to protect the recording industry but it is feared that it will greatly affect the way that music is currently played by DJs in some European countries.

Many DJs have welcomed the change saying that it offers them the chance to get back to mixing with vinyl like “what we did in the 90s.” Others fear that the Euro nations dancefloors will suffer as some DJs couldn’t mix a pudding.

A recent trial in Germany found dancers unable to move to the scrambled beats offered by the DJ causing the massive Eine Kleine nightclub in Stuttgart to close early as music lovers left the dancefloor in droves when the DJ behind the vinyl decks was unable to beat match and finally turned all the house lights on.

DJs like Guetta, Tiesto,Armin Van Buuren and Paul Van Dyk have come to dominate house music in the last ten years leaving many UK DJs stacking shelves in Tesco and one expert felt that it was a conspiracy amongst a cult of Euro DJs currently dominating house music that first raised the possibility of a Euro wide ban on digital music.

In the UK there have been a number of questions asked in parliament about the impact that the return to vinyl will have on the UKs night time economy with some night club operators  already beginning to outsource their DJs to India and China where there is a strong tradition of mixing on vinyl.

David (call me Dave) Cameron stated, privately, over a really nice dinner at number ten with a wealthy Foreign DJ Agent, that he thought it would be okay for clubs to outsource their DJs as we are all in this together and in this time of austerity its perfectly acceptable to buy in cheap labour especially if they can beat match.

Although the focus has so far been primarily on the impact upon House music DJs the ban will surely also affect party DJs many of whom like to “cross cut” a technique which is considerably more difficult using vinyl. One party bar chain has , allegedly, been trawling the DJ wedding circuit for old school DJs who can lift the needle off the record during Come On Eileen and shout “get Your Hands In The Air” before dropping the needle back down in the same place without incident. Its a technique lost amongst younger DJs but still exciting to watch when  done by a vintage disc jockey.

One unexpected result of the return to vinyl has been a reported increase in the sale of vinyl bags (and not just the ones which poseurs use to pretend they have some records…..real bags that weigh a ton when fully loaded with 12 inch singles.)

The full details of the European Directive will be announced on Sunday April 1 but until then many DJs are holding their breath hoping that this is just a wind up.

Live Music Management are very proud to be continuing our relationship with the Motorcycle News Live Weekends by supplying two great rock bands for this years event in Skegness Butlins on the weekend of April 20 to 23.

As in previous years the MCN weekend will be attracting several thousand bikers to Skeg Vegas for a weekend of bike related mayhem and music.

Brainscape are getting a return booking to this great weekend with a performance on April 20 that will allow the band to get back to their rock roots and turn the amps up to 11. You can expect to hear the band rocking out with the meatier songs from their set and I would be very surprised if their jaw dropping version of Rage Against The Machines Killing In The Name Of didn’t make an appearance.

On April 21 Platform Six party band will be taking to the stage with their full on rock set and highlights will be a plenty for fans of both classic rock and modern rock based indie.

If you are of  biker orientation then there is no way you can miss this weekend. There are still some tickets on sale from the MCN news site and we would suggest you get down there. You may even see some of the LMM team with our air guitars and heads in the speakers!

Beer Festival Bands

Beer Festivals

Beer Festivals

Beer and music go together like……rama lama and ding dong?

We were reminded of this fact over the past week when we  booked bands into two separate beer festivals. We have supplied some music to one down in Oxfordshire and another one taking place in Uttoxeter organised by a good mate of ours.

Back when I was playing in bands an annual event which we looked forward to was a beer festival in a pub car park in Chesterfield. Although billed as a blues festival in reality the bands covered all genres and for several years my old band headlined with an eclectic set which encompassed all styles bar blues! Nonetheless it was a nice event to play as by the time the sun began to set and we took to the stage the audience were enthusiastic (which is a great euphemism for well oiled.)

If you are looking for live acts for your beer festival then we are very happy to try and organise best prices and best band. At LMM we support the grand tradition of combining some good beers with live music.

On the subject of this I was in Sheffield on Friday and popped into Delaneys Bar which I was pleased to see was pretty busy with an offer of Thornbridge Brewery Ales and live music. Fridays band was the Legendary Frank White who I haven’t seen for a year or two but who was a childhood hero of mine. He had a guest guitarist with him who was incredible. A great looking young guy who played Hendrix style licks referencing blues and jazz and blew everyone away. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Steve Delaney every success with his venture.

Still on the subject of beer and bands PRS in partnership with the Musicians Union and the British Beer And Pub Association have awarded The Market Inn in Faversham this years Music Makeover award. The pub will receive £5000 to improve it’s music facilities and receive expert advice on staging music events. This award is part of an initiative to keep music alive in our pubs. Live music at this level is the bedrock of the UKs music industry both in the recording field and in allowing young jobbing musicians the experience which creates great wedding and party bands. It is the platform on which tens of thousands of UK jobs are built.

Beer and bands they go together like……Be Bop A Lulu and a Whop Bam Boo??

Velvet Monkey TV Wedding Band

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

We had the pleasure of seeing the great wedding band Velvet Monkey last night on ITV’s “For Better Or Worse” documentary. They performed “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” whilst the bride and groom , Charlotte and Tom, danced around in Blue Brothers hats andd their wedding finery.

Charlotte and Tom looked like a fun couple. Tom had proposed whilst wearing a leprachaun outfit and attempting to set a world record for leprachauns running the London marathon so I guess its no surprise that they chose a lively and fun party band for their wedding day.

Velvet Monkey offer a good value option for wedding parties in the Surrey area. They have a singer who plays keyboards so they offer an extra instrument which many four piece bands are not able to offer.

If you are looking for a great band for your party or wedding and fancy using a band who have a bit of TV glitterdust sprinkled on them then give the Live Music Management office a call on 08454 900515 or email info@lmmuk.com we should be able to help.

Todays blog features news of one of our new wedding bands. The band Fine Time were put together by an experienced session musician and party band leader in order to cater for discerning clients in the London and home counties looking for a great band with male vocals.

They chose their reportoire based on clients recomendations of the most popular songs to play at weddings and have a set list comprising of more than 200 songs  ranging from 1950s hits right through to current day anthems. They are even able to offer dinner jazz sets.

Rockstar Weddings

Monday, March 19th, 2012

We see all kinds of wedding themes here at Live Music Management and our clients are very imaginative in tailoring their wedding day into a unique and special occasion reflecting their personalities.

One of the latest trends in wedding planning is the theme of Rockstar weddings . A number of clients have approached LMM with a view to booking entertainment fit for a rockstar wedding. Inspired,  perhaps, by Rock N Roll Brides website and celebrity weddings we have some brides and grooms wanting to book entertainment with a rockstar theme.

Bandeoke AKA Rockaoke or Live Band Karaoke is one of the popular choices for a rockstar themed wedding.

This entertainment allows your wedding guests the opportunity to sing on stage with live band. They are able to get the chance to act like a rockstar and perform a set in front of your guests. All LMMM Bandeoke bands look the part , sound the part and are able to also perform a stand alone set if you are wanting the band to sing themselves for part of the evening.

Besides Bandeoke or Rockaoke we also have a number of young , high energy bands able to offer your event a little Rockstar glamour (attitude without the attitude is what we like to call it!)

Live Music Management are proud to be at the forefront of the Rockstar weddings craze and to be able to offer great wedding bands who can meet with any brief.
