“I am looking for a funky party band,” said the Bride to be who called the Live Music Management offices on Friday.

This particular client was clear about what she wanted and she was looking for a band who played the best of disco and funk music from the past thirty years. That would include hits made famous during the Studio 54/ Saturday Night Fever era of the 1970s and tracks by the likes of Rhianna and Beyonce currently popular in the nightclubs of today.

Funky Party Bands are a popular choice for weddings, parties and events offering a wide range of material crossing age divides and generation gaps with dance floor orientated grooves. Vintage Trouble-LMM Salute You

If Live Music Management had a slogan it would be something along the lines of “You Love Music-We Love Music.” At heart the people who staff our offices are lovers of music who are lucky enough to make their livings by supplying bands and DJs to weddings, events , nightclubs and parties. We have a broad range of enthusiasms from indie , jazz and Northern Soul to Electro and House and all ports in between. If its of quality we admire it if it touches our hearts then we fall in love.

Vintage Trouble are an American rock/soul band. The best way to describe would be to say that a singer with a voice like Otis Redddings and moves like James Brown fronts a white rock band with a blues flavour like early Led Zeppelin. They are currently building a following through their fantastic live shows.

Our accounts team went to see them at the Forum in Sheffield some months ago and came back raving about what a great live show they had. Last night a team of us piled down to The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham to watch them lay it down live. I can confirm exactly waht our accounts people said …..they are an awesome live force with astonishing vocals and a red hot LA rock band playing old school RNB riffs.

The songs aren’t great and the album a bit of a dissapointment but see them live and you will leave converted. The singer could sing a nursery rhyme and make it sound like the greatest song written.

The audience last night ran from students and indie kids to fifty and sixty year old classic rock fans .Surprisingly for a band who have just recently won Best New Band in Classic Rock magazine the audience also contains a very high proportion of gangs of women in their thirties and forties (obviously attracted by the danceability of the music and the loverman vibes of the lead singer.)

So this is nothing really to do with our day to day work as we have no direct contact or affiliation with this band but we like to share new discoveries and if you haven’t yet seen this act live you might want to treat yourself.

They play tonight at the Plug in Sheffield and then throughout the UK on tour.

When a friend of mine went to visit family in Pakistan in the 1980s the word “disco” had become an adjective to describe anything that was trendy or quality. He said he was amused to find his coat being described as “disco” and that he was staying in a “disco” house.

It may have been a short lived trend but it just shows how far disco traveled from it’s roots in the New York club scene.
