London is one of the most exciting cities on earth with a wealth of entertainment on offer every single night of the week. Live Music Management are very lucky to have had a small part in the cultural life of London in  that  LMM have been instrumental in booking live bands in London into some of the Capitols most prestigious venues over the past fifteen years. We also book London DJs for events and venues both large and small throughout London. On todays blog we outline some of our favourite venues to catch live bands in London.

Dingwalls

Camden’s iconic Dingwalls is a venue very dear to Live Music Management’s heart. Not only has it hosted shows for up and coming bands for over thirty years but it was also the home of LMM team member DJ Big Als sunday residency for a number of years. Dingwalls has held shows for The Foo Fighters, Mumford and Sons, Pink , The Strokes , Coldplay and Noel Gallagher amongst others in the past five years or so. It’s a venue that has become a rock n roll institution . There are great bands playing at Dingwalls all the time. Many of them are just on the verge of breaking big, some of them are already huge!

Walkabout Shepherds Bush

A great place to see a visiting Australasian band or to see one of Londons party bands doing their stuff.

Union Chapel

If you get the chance to see a band in this brilliant gem of a venue then do take it. Union Chapel holds occasional bookings for acoustic acts and is one of our favourite intimate spaces in the Capitol.

Guanabara

Guanabara is a great place to catch one of Londons top funk bands . Its a large Brazilian thmed club that has fantastic live music throughout the week with the emphasis on cool and trendy London soul bands

Walkabout Temple

If you are looking for a great venue that has some live music on a Saturday night then it’s worth checking out Temple Walkabout as the place to see London party duos playing their sets .

The Roadhouse

The Roadhouse in Covent Garden is a fantastic place to see a Rockaoke Band (and maybe even join in with the Live Band Karaoke) The Roadhouse runs the best in London function bands on most nights of the week.

The Lexington

Fantastic venue in Angel which holds small scale shows for all kinds of bands but in particular alt country and indie acts. LMM love this venue.

The Hootananny Brixton

A great live venue in Brixton which is a new discovery for the Live Music Management gang. The Hootananny Brixton holds a number of world music events and is a great venue to catch something new and original .

London is a great city for Live Music and above are several venues to see Live Music of all descriptions. Its gotta be better than sitting in the house!!

There are a million and one things to do and plan when putting together the perfect wedding day. Live Music Management book entertainment into around a thousand weddings per annum and every one is individual and different closely reflecting the personalities of the Bride and Groom .

In our view one of the most important parts of a wedding reception is the music chosen regardless of whether this is provided by a wedding DJ or a wedding band. It is quite likely that the music at your wedding will be remembered long after the wedding breakfast is forgotten. It will certainly change the atmosphere more dramatically than the flowers or the table napkins will. That’s why many Brides and Grooms and professional wedding planners  choose Live Music Management in order to ensure the right wedding entertainment is delivered to their big night.

We would like to offer a few simple wedding music tips that might help you make the decisions about what kind of music to book for your wedding.

DJ’s For Weddings

There are a number of advantages to booking a Deejay for a wedding as opposed to hiring live music. For one, in most cases , it will cost less money. Secondly a DJ will have a wider choice of music and be able to deal with requests more effectively than the majority of wedding bands. However there are a couple of things to be wary of. For instance don’t just plump for the DJ offered as a free of charge addition to your wedding package by the venue. Check out the quality of the DJ beforehand. Not all DJ’s are the same. In Live Music Management’s experience the majority of DJs holding hotel wedding residencies are not particularly good and a bad DJ is sure to ruin your wedding party (especially if that’s the only entertainment you have booked on the night.)

Bands For Weddings

When considering what kind of band style you would like for your wedding think carefully about your wedding guests and the atmosphere you are planning to create. The wedding band will change this atmosphere the minute they start playing. We have hundreds of testimonials from happy clients saying “the band created a great atmosphere at our wedding….everyone was dancing all night” and “people have not stopped texted me to tell me how good the band was” etc etc.

Do you want your guests up on the dance floor. If so you probably want to hire a rock pop party band or a soul funk party band dependant upon your own personal tastes. If your wedding is going to be a quieter affair then we have acoustic bands available. If you want a glamorous , vintage atmosphere then maybe consider hiring a swing band. If the evening is about conversation and great food then maybe something from our classical music section will fit the bill. At Live Music Management we have a large number of enquiries from clients looking for corporate entertainment ideas. Over the years we have been able to build up a reputation as an honest broker with great quality live acts available at reasonable rates. Most importantly we have built a reputation for honest advice and we will always be looking beyond the one booking to build a rapport with a client (even they only book entertainment once a year) so that they become one of our valued “return” clients.

When someone asks for corporate entertainment ideas we are always thinking about how to make their party the very best that it can be.

There are a few key questions that we would ask of any client looking for corporate entertainment ideas.

1.What is the age and nationality demographic of the party?

2.What kind of effect are you looking to achieve? Do you want to get guests dancing or is the party a more formal reception.

3.Where in the UK is the venue and is it one that lends itself to live music?

4.Is there an award ceremony or speeches which the act needs to involve itself in? Is there a brand image which needs to be stressed and built upon?

5.How many guests will be in attendance?

6.Will the act need to bring PA or is there a sound and light company already booked?

7.Is there a fixed budget for the corporate entertainment?

Would a jazz swing act be the best kind of act for this event? Does the space and type of clientelle suggest that a great power duo like Front Cover would be the best act for this event? New Years Eve is traditionally the biggest party night of the year but also a time for reflection and thought,a time for looking back at the previous year and consider the year above.It’s one of the reasons why so many people become maudlin at Midnight on New Years Eve whilst others rejoice and party to the max.

The number one New Years Eve song is , obviously, Auld Lang Syne and although most people would struggle to sing the second verse and beyond even small children seem to be able to carry the tune and sing the first verse.It is a major tradition that people stand in a line,link arms and sing this song at New Year and ,even if our own Queen struggled with this at the Dome NYE celebrations back at the millennium, Auld Lang Syne is always going to be at the top of the top ten New Years Eve songs.
