Live Bands In London

Live Bands In London

London is one of the most exciting cities on earth with a wealth of entertainment on offer every single night of the week. Live Music Management are very lucky to have had a small part in the cultural life of London in  that  LMM have been instrumental in booking live bands in London into some of the Capitols most prestigious venues over the past fifteen years. We also book London DJs for events and venues both large and small throughout London. On todays blog we outline some of our favourite venues to catch live bands in London.

Dingwalls

Camden’s iconic Dingwalls is a venue very dear to Live Music Management’s heart. Not only has it hosted shows for up and coming bands for over thirty years but it was also the home of LMM team member DJ Big Als sunday residency for a number of years. Dingwalls has held shows for The Foo Fighters, Mumford and Sons, Pink , The Strokes , Coldplay and Noel Gallagher amongst others in the past five years or so. It’s a venue that has become a rock n roll institution . There are great bands playing at Dingwalls all the time. Many of them are just on the verge of breaking big, some of them are already huge!

Walkabout Shepherds Bush

A great place to see a visiting Australasian band or to see one of Londons party bands doing their stuff.

Union Chapel

If you get the chance to see a band in this brilliant gem of a venue then do take it. Union Chapel holds occasional bookings for acoustic acts and is one of our favourite intimate spaces in the Capitol.

Guanabara

Guanabara is a great place to catch one of Londons top funk bands . Its a large Brazilian thmed club that has fantastic live music throughout the week with the emphasis on cool and trendy London soul bands

Walkabout Temple

If you are looking for a great venue that has some live music on a Saturday night then it’s worth checking out Temple Walkabout as the place to see London party duos playing their sets .

The Roadhouse

The Roadhouse in Covent Garden is a fantastic place to see a Rockaoke Band (and maybe even join in with the Live Band Karaoke) The Roadhouse runs the best in London function bands on most nights of the week.

The Lexington

Fantastic venue in Angel which holds small scale shows for all kinds of bands but in particular alt country and indie acts. LMM love this venue.

The Hootananny Brixton

A great live venue in Brixton which is a new discovery for the Live Music Management gang. The Hootananny Brixton holds a number of world music events and is a great venue to catch something new and original .

London is a great city for Live Music and above are several venues to see Live Music of all descriptions. Its gotta be better than sitting in the house!!

Live Music Management are a London based entertainment agency who book live cover bands and DJs into events throughout the UK and beyond. If you need any info about booking a party band call the LMM office on 08454 900515

2013 Bad Luck For Weddings?

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013
2013 bad luck for weddings

2013 bad luck for weddings

I vividly recall the busiest single day for weddings in Live Music Managements thirteen plus years of supplying wedding bands and wedding DJs. It was July 7 2007 and we could easily have sold our top bands several times over.

The reason was twofold.

Firstly a small number of Brides and Grooms had picked up on the 007 James Bond connection in the night and were planning Bond themed wedding days. Secondly, and this was a world wide  phenomenon apparently, the triple sevens in the date made 7.07.2007 the luckiest day in the calendar to get married on. The fact that it fell on a Saturday just added to the lucky  coincidence hat led so many couples to plan their big day on what was considered to be a lucky day with the number seven having many lucky connotations in the Western World. There is a couple of paragraphs in Gordon Burn’s book “The News As A Novel” investigating this very date and it’s popularity with Brides and Grooms to be.

By the same token 2013 is seen by some Brides and Grooms as being unlucky and  it is reported that planned weddings  are down on previous years due to the fact that many people in the West see 2013 as an unlucky year due to the unlucky 13. Live Music Managements observations on this are not scientific and so we can only add anecdotal evidence to the 2013 debate. We have had many, many enquiries for 2014 weddings over the last few months with quite a few confirmed bookings already. It appears that some engaged couples are planning way ahead and skipping 2013 all together.

Of course there could be other reasons for this. Economic perhaps? But there is certainly something going off.

That’s not to say that there are not many couples booking bands and DJ’s for their 2013 weddings. If you are looking for music for weddings  or to hire a wedding singer or mobile DJ then please give Live Music Management a call on 08454 900515 or email info@lmmuk.com  for the best options for your 2013 or 2014 wedding date. 2013 bad luck for weddings? Not if you are booking your entertainment with the UK’s premier entertainment agency!

Beatboxers Are Bonkers (Says Dizzee Rascal)

Beatboxers for hire

Beatboxers for hire

For the past ten years Live Music Management have been booking beat boxers into events and functions.

Grace, our world champion female beatboxer  has been a big hit at live events and media engagements. She has appeared on Blue Peter, on Radio Four with Rufus Hound, on Room 101 and on Radio Fours Loose Ends. She teaches at workshops and has a glittering career performing at club nights and events. She is the voice of I Love Apps appearing on radio adverts that ran nationwide.

Bloxed  beatbox collective have appeared on MTV and Sky television. They have worked with the likes of Trevor Nelson, Tim Westwood and Dizzee Rascal and  received high praise from all of them.

How can you use a beat box act successfully at your event?

The following are all examples of previous events that we have supplied our beat boxers to

1. club style nights working alongside a DJ to ensure a great atmosphere at a forward thinking event.

2. Working alongside other musicians to give a contemporary twist to party or background music. For instance we recently supplied a beat boxer to work with a singer guitarist at a drinks reception for a client with a predominantly under forty staff. It worked much better and made more sense than using a traditional style of background reception music with the act becoming one of the hits of the evening.

3.Pairing a beat boxer with an unusual instrument or style of music can give a fantastic lift to an event. For instance over Christmas we paired beat boxers with a traditional choir in order to make an act that would work in front of a fashion conscious young crowd.

4.Pop Up Musicians. The Singing waiters concept is one thing but how about Pop Up Musicians? Beat boxers can be placed around a venue ready to surprise your guests when they pick up the mic and sing a great set of covers.

The possibilities are endless and Live Music Management have the quality professional beat boxers to ensure that your event works perfectly. Call the Live Music Management office on 08454 900515 for further ideas and to talk through options and availabilities.

An acoustic duo is often a popular choice for weddings for several reasons.

1.Noise restrictions often rule out a full band.

2.space restrictions

3.Wanting to create a warm environment with great music and a friendly atmosphere.

4.Wanting an act that can be in the background but also maybe amp it up a little for people to dance later in the evening.

5 wanting an act appropriate for wedding reception music

Acoustic duos are also a competitive type of act to book for a wedding. Many of them also offer a DJ service free of charge so you get a live act and a DJ for around the same price as a party dj.

Snowmaggedon Returns!

Snowmaggedon

Snowmaggedon

So it was the return of Snowmaggedon this week. The Snowpocolypse which hit Britain (according to the hyper ventilating reports in the media) this weekend was yet another occasion when Live Music Management have to thank our wedding DJs and party bands for their tremendous efforts getting to and from work.

As with previous snowfalls in the last twelve months the snow began at the worst time for the entertainment industry. With most of the work now concentrated upon weekends it’s been very tough on venues and acts alike that the major snow falls for most parts of the UK have all started on a Friday afternoon and lasted through the weekend. That said Live Music Management had very few acts calling our emergency number at the weekend. Most people got to work on time to entertain the nation. The past few snowfalls have brought large parts of the UK to a standstill and yet somehow Live Music Management nightclub DJs have struggled through the snow and made sure that our venues have the talent in place in order to deliver a night of top quality entertainment for the punters who make it through the snow.

Thanks again for your efforts.

What To Look For When Using An Entertainment Agent

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013
Entertainment Agency

Entertainment Agency

What to look for when using an entertainment agent?

I could answer this with a simple one word answer….integrity….and I wouldn’t be far off the mark but of course that wouldn’t make for much of a blog.

First of all I must declare Live Music Managements interest in answering the question of what to look for when using an entertainment agent. Live Music Management are an entertainment agency booking bands and DJ’s into events, parties, weddings, nightclubs and holiday parks etc etc. So we are answering the question with some degree of bias. We believe entertainment booking agencies to be, fundamentally, a good thing.

An entertainment agency with integrity works for both the act and the client to ensure that all parties are happy with the arrangements and details of an engagement. From the offset an agent with a great deal of knowledge of his roster and field will be able to advise the right band for your function or the perfect mobile DJ for your wedding. He will want the act and the event to be a perfect marriage so that all parties have a great evening. A good entertainment agent will know the going rate for a job and charge this rate making his cut from the long standing arrangement with the act with the act happy to pay commission as the agent gets them a volume of work which would not be achievable if working alone.

Having said all of the above we would then say that these are the things to look for when using an entertainment agent.

Does the agency have long established , repeat booking clients?

For instance Live Music Management have been supplying DJs and party bands to the Walkabout Bars, Butlins Holiday Centres, The UK Military, Marks and Spencers (through a third party events company) , Wahoo Bars and many more for a decade plus (in the case of the Walkabout we have been sole supplier for over fourteen years.) This is important because weddings are one off bookings. There is very little that a client can do once the event has gone. They can’t choose to not book with them again as they will ,in most circumstances, never use a live band or DJ again. Live Music Management supply literally thousands of acts to repeat bookings every year. Every single one of them goes off without a hitch (or we deal with the problems on the day to ensure that a suitable replacement is offered.) We know our acts inside and out and soon get to wheedle out the unprofessional players who ,inevitably, litter the industry.

Is the agency a member of the Agents Association Of Great Britain?

This is the only organisation that legitimate agencies can belong to in the UK.It upholds the highest level of conduct amongst agents and we would suggest to be suspicious of any act not a member of the Agents Association.

Does the agency have a registered company name and address?

The unfortunate thing about the internet is that it has allowed a number of one man band, bedroom agencies enter into the marketplace without the same scruples as larger companies such as Live Music Management. Some of them look legitmate but don’t have offices, company registration and may not prove to be as accountable if anything goes wrong.

Live Music Management hold all customer deposits in a client account untill after the date of the function. We contract by legally binding, Agents Association contract.Live Music Management have a tried and tested confirmations system and a brilliant two man emergency phone call service available 24 hours and seven days per week.

Five Tips For A Garden Party

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012
Top Tips For Garden Parties

Top Tips For Garden Parties

As I write this the sun is shining in the South and big black rain clouds are rolling in from the North. It’s a fairly typical day in the UK,Summer 2012.

By mid June the garden party and festival season is in full swing and a number of Summer weddings have been planned with receptions held in gardens and outdoor areas. The unpredictable weather ,obviously, has a massive impact on this and although Live Music Management can do nothing to help with the weather at your garden party we can help you to plan how to best deal with the rain.

1.Don’t be fooled by the Sunshine. You may need shelter!

Either hire a marquee or buy a solid marquee (my local residents association recently spent £400 on a marquee from B and Q and it saw us through a rainy night in June when our annual BBQ was met by torrential rain. It actually added to the atmosphere with the forty or so guests huddled together under the canapy listening to live music from an acoustic duo.

2.Make sure your electrics are safe. If you are hiring a marquee you may be able to relinquish responsibility to the marquee hire company who might be supplying a generator but if you are sourcing the electricity yourself from the mains then make sure all the leads are safe and away from water.

3.Set up a safe dry area for your entertainment (especially if they are using electric equiptment) Don’t let the band set up directly on the ground which may get wet during a downpour.A wedding band needs to be safe to perform!

4.If you are supplying the music yourself then the same things apply but also you should consider is the equipment you intend to play your music over adequate for the number of people due to attend your party? What sounds okay in the house may sound distorted and puny when cranked up to deal with the background chatter of thirty or more guests, especially in an outdoor area. You may want to consider hiring a mobile DJ who will have the equiptment to cope with a larger crowd.

5.Unless you live in a stately home you need to invite the neighbours if you are holding a party in your garden! The last thing you want is a visit from the police half way through your party. The best way to avoid this is to speak to all the neighbours and make sure they have an invite or are aware of the fact that you are holding a party.Decide on a curfew for the night and then stick to it making sure any live function band or mobile dj is aware that they need to finish the music at this time.

Have a great summer party and if you are looking for entertainment please do call Live Music Management on 08454 900515.

Bespoke Songs For Weddings

Monday, February 13th, 2012

If you are looking for a unique and romantic wedding gift that will last a lifetime then why not consider commissioning a song writer to compose a song for the bride and groom?

Bespoke songs for weddings are a different and imaginative alternative to the usual weddding gift and have proved a popular choice as gifts from groom to bride (or vice versa) and from friends or family to the happy couple.

At Live Music Management we have a team of songwriters who have had success writing for film,TV and pop acts and they are able to take your brief and write a song perfect for your wedding gift.

Personalised songs are nothing new. Eric Clapton wrote “Wonderful Tonight” for his girlfriend. Toto wrote ” Rossanna” for Rossana Arquette.Chris Deburgh wrote “Lady In Red” for his wife. At live music management we can’t promise you a hit record but we can promise you a great song recorded to professional standards and with your personal brief written into the lyrics.

We ask that you shape your personal song by telling us what style would suit. Humorous? Pop? RnB?Soul?

We then ask for as much personal detail as possible about the person/s that the song is for.

We will draft a rough demo for your approval and then supply the finished copy ussually within 28 days of order.

A personal song written for your special day will be a memory treasi
