Our acoustic duos can also be seen in Marks and Spencer’s on their loyalty card holders events (booked through a third party events company) which are held in stores throughout the country. Besides these prestigious bookings in the UK we also send acoustic duos to events overseas for the troops on a regular basis and two of our acoustic duos have been book to play over in Afghanistan in 2013 (we have sent acoustic duos over to Afghanistan and Cyprus on a number of occasions to play for the troops.

With this kind of experience it is no wonder that Live Music Managements acoustic duos for weddings are setting the industry standard. An acoustic duo is often a popular choice for weddings for several reasons.

1.Noise restrictions often rule out a full band.

2.space restrictions

3.Wanting to create a warm environment with great music and a friendly atmosphere.

4.Wanting an act that can be in the background but also maybe amp it up a little for people to dance later in the evening.

5 wanting an act appropriate for wedding reception music

Acoustic duos are also a competitive type of act to book for a wedding. Many of them also offer a DJ service free of charge so you get a live act and a DJ for around the same price as a party dj.

Do Wedding Singers Die Young?

wedding singers die young

do wedding singers die young?

A recent study by BMJ suggests that solo artists are twice as likely to die early compared with those who join a band. The study which compared 1,500 rock and pop artists found that premature death was far greater in solo acts than in band members. The study compared pop stars from Elvis Presley through to modern acts like The Arctic Monkeys. From the results of this study we have to ask ourselves ” do wedding singers die young ?”

Live Music Management read the study with interest as it goes into very detailed, academic findings on the relative merits of playing in a group to ploughing the solo path along country of origin , socio-economic background of the musician before fame etc etc. To be fair it is clear that it is meant to be a study of pop stars rather than musicians with an opening statement which precludes the more humble musician.

“Rock and pop fame is associated with risk taking, substance use and premature mortality. We examine relationships between  fame and premature mortality and test how such relationships vary with type of performer (eg, solo or band member) and nationality and whether cause of death is linked with prefame (adverse childhood) experiences.”

As a casual observer with an interest in pop music history I would float that the study must be flawed as even amongst famous rock stars deaths there are dozens of examples of young band members dying well before their time with people like Kurt Cobain, Keith Moon,Michael Hutchence, Ritchie (from the Manic Street Preachers), Brian Jones etc only the most famous of them. It could even be mentioned that two members of the death at 27 club (Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix) were band members before they were solo artists.

It’s an interesting and serious study but it is very hard to draw conclusions from. One thing that struck Live Music Management was that the solo artist might,in many cases, have more accesss to weath and the burden of fame as they would not have equal partners to share these with.

The sharing of wealth and fame might not be as relevant for a wedding singer as it is for an international rock star. However it may well prove less stressful to share the burden of entertaining the nation with other members of a function band rather than going it alone and if there is some empirical evidence that links premature death or illness with being a solo artist (of which we doubt) then the lack of companianship and peers to share your experiences with might be the main cause.

Do wedding singers die young? Live Music Management doubt it!!

Best Wedding Speech Ever

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

The Live Music Management accounts lady is a big McFly fan having watched the band live several times and poured over their biography over the Christmas period so it was no wonder that she was impressed by Tom Fletchers wedding speech which has now gone viral. A couple of days ago she was imploring me to sit down and watch it and when I finally got around to it last night it had 800,000 hits. As I write this blog this morning it has exceeded 2,000,000 hits. If you watch the video (linked above) I am sure you will understand why. It is funny, moving, sincere and warm…..and it manages to shoehorn several McFly hits into it’s ten minutes. It could well be the best wedding speech ever.

Linking the fantasticaly well done ,professional and yet at the same time obvious;ly heart felt and personal Tom Fletcher wedding speech with a couple of similiar speeches that Live Music Management have been involved in may seem a little commercial but I want to get the message across that you don’t need a back catalogue of fantastic hits (or indeed the ability to sing them brilliantly) in order to achieve a similiar effect.

A couple of years ago we supplied some harmony singers to sing part of a best bands speech at a wedding. The best man had written a peom to the tune of “I Am Getting Married In The Morning” from My Fair Lady and our wedding singers popped up in order to relate the hilarious lyrics at a crucial part of the speech. It was a perfect use of pop up musicians in that it created a memorable moment full of surprise and humour.

Likewise there was another best man who felt confident enough to sing a song during his speech and he was helped in this by members of one of Live Music Managements brilliant wedding bands who accompanied him on guitar and piano at little additional cost to the main function band booking later at the wedding reception. On this occasion the best man and groom were colluding in order to surprise the bride and bridesmaids.

Live Music Managements pop up musicians have also performed during wedding ceremonies and wedding ceremony music can be tweaked and bespoked in order to achieve any effect desired.

Anyway I digress from the main event which is Tom McFlys wedding speech which has to be the best wedding speech ever. One thing about the speech which comes over very clearly (and must be part of the reason for the high number of online hits) is the obvious sincerity and overall niceness of these McFly chaps.Live Music Management wich them all the best for a happy future

Serena William’s Favourite Band?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

The Celeste acoustic duo are made up of two very talented London based guitarist singers who play a wide range of pop and chart material in a live lounge style. It might be stretching a point to say that they are Serena Williams favourite band but Serena certainly had a good night when she popped into one of their shows earlier this year.

The Celeste acoustic duo were playing at a venue in Wimbledon, Hemmingways Lounge, around the time of the 2012 Olympics tennis tournament , Serena was enjoying a drink with a friend and they stayed the whole evening and were singing along. The band  had a nice chat with her afterwards, which is when she mentioned how much she enjoyed it.

Serena Williams particularly enjoyed Celestes version of ‘Empire State of Mind’ by Alicia Keys!

Serena was in town for the  Olympics and  was staying in the village whilst here to play to win gold -which she did!! She was a great lady, big personality and very friendly .Unfortunately the band  didn’t get a photo with her at the time as they didnt wan to bother her too much epecially after she had been so kind to say nice things about their duo.

We have a number of stories about celebrities stumbling across Live Music Management bands playing in bars and venues and enjoying the evening. The night that Duffy spent watching the Dorset duo and requesting her then number one hit “Mercy” several times being one of my favourites!

Acoustic duos and solos like the Celeste duo are perfect for venues and parties where the entertainment needs to be lively enough to keep people entertained but not too loud or in your face. They are a popular choice at weddings where space is at a premium or the Bride and Groom are looking for quality wedding entertainment at a budget price.Live Music Management have a wide selection of great acoustic duos in all areas of the UK ready to hire.In order to find out which band is most suited to your event please call the LMM office and speak to one of our events team.It may even be that the Celeste duo are available for your party and you too can be entertained by Serena Williams favourite band!

The Live Music Management office is open Monday to Friday 10am through to 6pm on 08454 900515 or you can email info@

Should Musicians Be Paid?

Should Musicians Be Paid?

Should Musicians Be Paid?

Amanda Palmer is a an American performer whose album has just entered the US top ten. She famously raised £1.2 million though Kickstarter, the website set up to help artists and musicians raise money for their projects through their fanbase. This is by far the most money ever raised by anyone through this method and it was trumpeted as an alternative to the record label advance as a future business model for the up and coming act.

So far, so good. However Amanda Palmer courted controversy when she asked musicians to join her Grand Theft Orchestra and play at her tour dates with the promise of “beer, merchandise and hugs” as compensation. Angry musicians flooded her website with complaints and the President of the American Federation Of Musicians (the equivelant of our Musicians Union) criticised her plans at length. Amanda Palmer dropped her idea to crowdsource musicians before the start of her tour and, one assumes, the musicians on her tour of the UK next year will receive some monies but reading about the controversy over the weekend raised the question “should musicians be paid?”

I am currently in the process of promoting and rehearsing for a sell out charity show in my hometown . Myself and the former members of a band with a local following decided to reform for a show. We knew our minor success in the local area back in the 1980s would lead to enough interest to sell a hundred or so tickets and we decided to donate all the ticket sales to the Children’s Hospital Charity. We have no regrets about this as we are all in the fortunate position of being able to earn money from a variety of sources and we can afford to give some of our time to a good cause. However it has brought home to me just how much people are asking when they ask musicians to perform for free.

We have held a total of ten rehearsals. Each rehearsal room hire costs £26 (which, by the way, is remarkably cheap a quick bit of research suggests double the costs in most towns and London rehearsal rooms can cost hundreds of pounds to hire.) Travel costs to each rehearsal will have been maybe £6 to £10 for each member.

Guitar strings and other breakable items like drum sticks will have added another £15 or so cost to each musician.

Then, of course, there is the cost of the many thousands of pounds worth of musical equipment which each individual musician has had to invest in other the years.  The PA system required to perform at a gig that holds 100 to 150 people could cost £5,000 to purchase (or more) or around £250 to £400 to hire. If there are more people in attendance then the skies the limit with costs of hiring PA.

In most venues stage lighting is expected to be provided by the band. Stage lighting will cost several hundred pounds to buy or around £100 to hire a basic set up.

Getting equipment to the gig is going to involve a large vehicle. Many bands have to hire a van or buy a van.

Maybe the band need or are expected to wear special clothing? There is a cost attached to this.

PAT certificates are required for all electrical equipment. It can cost £40 or more to get PAT certificates for one piece of electrical gear.

Punlic Liability Insurance is required by many venues. This can cost hundreds of pounds per annum.

Then there are the years of practice room hire, music lessons , spending money on sheet music or MP3′s to listen to.

The cost of demos and recordings can be huge and yet it is necessary for bands to have these in order to be sought after for gigs.

A website is a necessity in this day and age and these can cost a few hundred pounds to set up.

Live Music Management believe that musicians should be paid a reasonable rate for bookings and we hope that the quality of our function bands , wedding singers and tribute acts will show that there is a real need to employ professional musicians to make your event special.

Bands For Street Parties

Bands for street parties

The Diamond Jubilee weekend has proved to be one of the busiest weekends ever for outdoor events.A record number of street events are planned for this weekend and at Live Music Management we have dozens of bands booked for street parties throughout the UK.

Probably one of the most interesting street party acts booked is one taking place in East London where a huge street party with five hundred tables will be entertained by two of our acoustic performers singing pop songs. The plan is that one of the performers will start at one end and the other at the other end and eventually they will meet in the middle after singing a song or two every few tables. They will be wandering minstrels for the afternoon!

Of course street parties aren’t just for the jubilee and LMM have expertise in booking acts for outdoor events. We are able to work with your brief and identify the right act whether that be an acoustic solo or duo or a live band or wedding singer.

Just last week Shades and Mohawk played at the opening of a community centre.

The client sent this message back after the performance

“The music was fabulous and would book them again without hesitation. Something for all ages. We booked them for a Community Centre opening event and they were so flexible. The sun shone and the public were outside so the played on the patio and created a real party atmosphere.”

For details about bands for street parties please call the LMM office on 08454 900515 or email info@lmmuk.com

Hire A Wedding Singer

wedding singers for hire

wedding singers for hire

If you are looking to hire a wedding singer you may be haunted by the vision of the sweet but hapless character that Adam Sandler plays in the movie of the same name but here at Live Music Management we have quality wedding singers for hire who can offer a low cost alternative to hiring a live band.

A wedding singer is a musician who either plays an instrument or works to backing tracks (or sometimes both) and performs popular covers at weddings and parties. Admittedly it is a field which is full of naff , karaoke style acts that are more suited to a wet Wednesday at your local Dog And Duck than performing at a classy wedding however LMM have sorted the wheat from the chaff and are able to offer you some of the best solo and duo wedding singers in the UK.

The advantages of booking a wedding singer instead of a full band are obvious (the cost of hiring one musician as opposed to several is going to offer you a saving) but there are also other reasons why clients sometimes choose a solo act over a band.

1.If there is limited space then obviously a solo singer will take up less space than a five piece band.

2.If there is a limited window for the entertainment to get set up in.It ussually takes less time for a solo wedding singer to get set than a full band (believe me I have played with many drummers and most are going to take thirty minutes to set up a drum kit!!!)

3.If there is a sensative sound limiter in the venue it is ussually easier to control the volume on a one man band than on a full band with drums.

You can check out our range of acoustic and power solo/duo wedding singers here http://www.lmmuk.com/solos-duos.php   or you can call the LMM office for best options.

Hire A Power Duo For A Wedding Or Party

Thursday, March 1st, 2012
Front Cover Power duo

Front Cover Power Duo

Yesterday Live Music Management had several duos playing at a showcase for overseas contracts. The client shares similiar tastes to LMM when looking for a quality party duo. The act needs to be high energy , with the ability to play instruments to a high standard , charisma , great vocals , the skills required to work a crowd. They need to sound like a full band without being overpowered by backing tracks that make them seem like they are merely miming to a record.

It’s a tough ask!

There are many duos out there that began life playing at working mens clubs or on cruise liners that offer a more cabaret approach (and I am not being dissmissive of this as there is room for every kind of act to suit all tastes) but it is hard to find a young duo with backing tracks that make the kind of noise that can rock the party.

Live Music Management have a number of these power duos on our books and if you check out the duo section of our website you will find examples of the finest. Of course you can also call the LMM office for ideas on 08454 900515 .

If you are a power duo meeting with the description above please do contact the LMM office as we are constantly looking for acts that meet with the criteria mentioned above.
