Union Jack Band
Something terrible happened on Saturday night but as bad as it is many of our bands and DJs will recognise the scenario as lots of people have experienced the same (or similar.)
Union Jack arrived at Sheffield Walkabout,opened the back of the van and then had the horrible realisation that key parts of their equipment had been stolen while the van was in lock up.
When the band leader called me he was,by his own words,”feeling sick with shock.”
It looks like the thieves may have got away with several thousands worth of top quality equipment including drums shells,snare,bass drum pedals,guitar pedals and a set of lights.
The first thing that was on the bands mind was how to make the show happen.They were due on stage in around 90 minutes and we somehow had to borrow,beg or hire some drum gear to get the band up to scratch.
As Mick called a few places I picked up the phone and called Practice Sheffield and a guy called Warren, who we don’t know from Adam ,immediately offered some gear at a very cheap price and so I would like to officially and very publicly thank the guys at http://practicesheffield.co.uk/ for their help and suggest that if anyone needs a rehearsal room in Sheffield they pop down to this place and give some love back.
Union Jack are a brilliant band and a great bunch of guys who we have known for a long time (way back in the late 90s we came across them playing in Yorkshire and we have been booking them ever since,Mick from Union Jack has even been to a few gigs with me popping off to see Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney in concert as we both share a love of great song writers) and so we knew they would overcome the shock of having their gear stolen and put on a good show with borrowed gear which is exactly what they did.
Many bands will recognise the scenario of having a vital piece of equipment stolen at a gig or from a lock up.It even happened to my Dad back in 1963 when he returned from a gig and unloaded his Hofner Violin bass into the house.When he returned to his car parked in a suburban street five minutes later someone had pinched an amplifier and a box of 45s.The street was deserted.
