Jobs in the music industry

Live Music Management are an entertainment agency specialising in the hiring of function bands and DJs to venues , weddings ,parties and events . LMM pride ourselves on offering a great service and on the quality of our DJs and bands who are all committed to offering the very best in party entertainment. What Live Music Management also offer to our acts is a platform for building a career in the music industry.Live Music Management support music industry jobs in many different ways.

A fair percentage of Live Music Management acts are pursuing an original music career and in a difficult and challenging environment rely on the support of Live Music Management in order to augment their other music industry jobs.

There are a variety of ways that Live Music Management acts are contributing to the creative industries besides their live work for LMM.

1.Writing and recording careers.

Many Live Music Management party bands, singers and musicians have ambitions to release music commercially. Many of them write their own music and hope to gain publishing or record deals. Some of them have had significant success in this area and Live Music Management acts have secured major deals with labels and publishing houses.

2.Session Work

Session players are musicians who play on records , film and TV music or live dates when they are a payed a session fee (i.e a one off fee for the appearance or recording session.) At Live Music Management we are lucky to have world class musicians playing in many of our bands and a full list of the celebrity sessions that these people have played with would be huge .To give you an example members of Live Music Management bands have played alongside Robbie Williams, Ollie Muirs,Ray Davies (The Kinks),Sugababes, James McCartney,Bryan Ferry,Rod Stewart,Diana Vickers,Julio Inglesis, Westlife,D Ream,Ami Winehouse, Michael Buble, Celine Dion,Phil Collins,Nelly Furtado,Busted, McFly and many many more!!!

TV and film credits for Live Music Management bands include hundreds of adverts and TV shows from Eastenders to Downton Abbey through to Shameless (one extreme to the other!) Of course many of our acts have played on the Jools Holland show including as recently as November 2012 when acoustic act Brook Supple played in the Sinead O Connor band on the Jools Holland show.

3.Production credits

A great many Live Music Management DJs (and some bands) produce music for the dance music scene offering remixes to major recording artists or original pieces for the dance music scene or for TV and advertising.

Live Music Management support a vibrant and talented team of creatives many of whom make a percentage of their income from the mainstream music industry in the ways outlined above but also rely on the planning and booking of live events by Live Music Management for a portion of their income. When you book a band or DJ with LMM you can be assured that Live Music Management support music industry jobs and make up one of the elements that make the UK such a world player on the music stage.

Live Music Management also provide a wage for a full time team of people who work in the LMM office almost all of whom come from a performance background and have great experience of writing, recording and producing themselves.

LMM Give Talk In School On Music Industry Careers

wedding band

I was invited into a local school yesterday in order to give careers advice to year 9s considering their options beyond the school gates. I was very pleased to be amongst the bank worker, soldier and many more able to give an hour of their time to talk about their chosen professions.

My personal path to becoming an entertainment agent was as follows

1.played music in parents pub from age 14

2.Set up band at 17 and went on to make two records, appear on tv a few times and play hundreds of gigs but never make any money.

3. Play in band with song writers who went onto write for Take That and Spice Girls…but still make little money!

3. Set up next band. Make one record and write two songs featured in Sean Bean movie “When Saturday Comes”..make little money!!

4.Set up covers band and start getting paid.

Eventually I end up taking over the bands bookings and moving onto booking other acts, nightclub  DJs and party bands which leads to me working at Live Music Management.

In yesterdays talk I tried to give a general idea of the careers available in the music industry from DJing and work for musicians through to promoting and events organising .

I hope the students found it useful. I certainly would have valued a similiar talk at their age when I was unsure of anything other my burning desire to make music.

It’s great to be able to mentor young people and talk about your own work experiences and I would encourage anyone with the opportunity to do this to volunteer.
