This coming Saturday, April 21, is Record Store Day which is an international celebration and promotion of independent record stores. It began some years ago in the USA and LMM have been writing a little blog to promote it for the last four years.
Live Music Management are passionate about music and we support the buying of music through record stores. In the years since we began writing about Record Store Day I can think of several independent record shops that have closed their doors for good and in reality if this promotion isn’t to become an exercise in nostalgia for people in most parts of the UK, where independent record stores no longer exist, then I guess Record Store Day may eventually have to be changed to “Buy Some Music Day.”
The reason we support independent record stores is that they are run by enthusiasts and they stock music that is outside the stuff you find front racked in Tesco and this is a good thing. It’s a good thing for choice and a good thing for music in general.
Maybe one of our future clients will be browsing in a record store this Saturday and hear an obscure track by some underground act and choose this for their First Dance Song at their wedding (how is that for a link!)
Anyway …Record stores …we salute you!!!
