I have just looked around our great roster of jazz swing bands for hire to weddings, parties and corporates in order to try and find a piece of video of a Xmas song but we don’t appear to have one.

However I did find the great video above of First Class Swing performing a fantastic swing set.

Platform Six Are A Great Party Band who also do Rockaoke/Bandeoke Sets

Platform Six Are A Great Party Band who also do Rockaoke/Bandeoke Sets

I had the great pleasure of working last night with our fantastic party band Platform Six who were providing a Rockaoke/Bandeoke set for a major phone company at a swanky and exclusive West End nightclub. The audience went wild as over thirty key staff and personell got up on stage and got their rocks off singing big pop anthems with this great Australian band.

Platform Six have had an incredibly busy couple of months with shows throughout the UK both as a party band and as a Bandeoke/Rockaoke act.

One of the highlights for the guys was playing at the beautiful Australian High Commission for the Australian High Commission Ball.We had marvelous feedback saying it was the best ball they had ever held and all the committe agreed that the band played a blinding set.The band told me last night that some of the guests even followed them down to Temple Walkabout the next night where they played another great concert.

Platform Six are an amazing band for weddings, events and parties and, just as importantly for the people who book them,a lovely bunch of guys who are very helpful and easy to work with.

Last nights show was a double header for LMM as support was from our unique jazz swing rock covers act “Nat King Bing And The Kings Of Schwing”  who played a set full of pop and rock anthems in the jazz swing style.A sophisticated start to a great evening in an amazing venue.

With a black tie guest list and the champagne flowing both bands had a brilliant evening (and so did the guests!)

If you are interested in booking either act call 08454 900515 or email info@lmmuk.com   you will not be disappointed.

Henderson Relish-Sheffields Gift to The World Of Food

Henderson Relish-Sheffields Gift to The World Of Food

Last Saturday I was in Endcliffe Park at Hunters Bar in Sheffield. The girls were playing in the great new swing park whilst I was queuing for a cappuccino in the Endcliffe Park café. On the Shelf was a bottle of Henderson’s Relish which for those of you who have never lived in South Yorkshire is widely regarded as the elixir of life by many Sheffielders.

Henderson’s Relish is condiment similar to Worcester sauce but ,good god, it’s so much more than that. In fact if you compared it to Worcester sauce in front of one of its many fans in Sheffield you’d get a look of disgust and pity. Henderson’s Relish has established itself as an essential item in every true Sheffielders cupboard. An accompaniment to meat pies, stews and casseroles but also interwoven into the fabric of life. It’s the one item of food I can remember my Granddads (on both sides) talking enthusiastically about and I can remember on one occasion ,as a kid, catching my Dad drinking his gravy from the plate awash with Henderson’s (something my Mum would never put up with.)

Henderson’s has achieved this because it tastes great and it has never expanded its sales territory beyond the Sheffield border. Drive ten miles down the road to Rotherham and its already becoming scarce. Go so far as Nottingham, 25 miles down the M1, and they’ll not have a clue what you’re talking about when you ask for the Henderson’s to splash on your pie.

For ex pats it’s an essential taste of home. We regularly take a bottle to relatives in Canada and ten years ago I was in Mexico with my wife when we came across a bottle. After travelling for ten hours outside Mexico City high up into the hills, passing dead donkeys and children selling Iguanas, we met an Ex Sheffielder running a Hotel who was never without his Henderson’s. His son was instructed to bring a case of the stuff whenever he arrived from the UK.

Sheffield singer/songwriter Richard Hawley mentions it in interviews (he pours it on fish and chips which is a kind of Uber-Sheffield behaviour.)There was even a Richard Hawley limited edition Hendersons Relish on sale during one of his tours.

The great Sheffield artist Pete McKee has included Henderson’s in a least one of his fantastic paintings.

I’m not sure if Jarvis Cocker has mentioned Henderson’s but I’m sure he’s a fan and it can only be a matter of time before The Arctic Monkeys write a song about it (Alex Turners relationship with Alexis Chung doesn’t seem to have moved him from his roots as they were both in the Endcliffe Park café a couple of weeks ago according to Ashley Charlesworth , the proprietor.)

Every year for Xmas I give the staff in LMM’s London office and our reps based out in the field a bottle of Hendersons as part of their Xmas present.(You can call me cheap but some things are worth more than money and those of us in the know need to limit the knowledge of this product as the tiny factory at the end of West Street (just up the road from the Walkabout Inn) in Sheffield looks like it couldn’t cope with any increased production. There is a Sheffield legend that noone has ever been seen leaving or entering the Henderson relish factory and certainly no smell ever seems to escape the building.

LMM supply the entertainment for a party in Sheffield which happens once a year in a marquee around bonfire night. They sometimes have a party band like Freak Out and last year they had our great Jazz band Powder who have played for Gordon Brown and Tony Blaire amongst others. Whatever the band (and however great they are ) the highlight of the party is always when the home made meat and potatoes pie comes out and there sitting on the table are two bottles of Henderson’s Relish-the elixir of life.

Nat King Bing And The Kings Of Schwing Make A Video

Jamie Afro on X Factor

Jamie Afro on X Factor

Just a short post.

After watching Jamie Afro on X Factor this evening we are all on tenterhooks about whether Jamie Afro is going to get past the Boot Camp stage of X Factor.

As regular readers will know Jamie Afro has worked for LMM for over five years playing Walkabout Bars, weddings and parties. He is a great performer and has been a real assett to the LMM family of entertainers.

Jamie Afro is in Simon Cowells last six in the over 25s category of X Factor. All the guys in the LMM office are rooting for him but nowhere near as much as my daughters who have gone a little Jamie nuts and are jumping around the room everytime he appears on screen (which, for those of you who have not seen the show,is quite a lot!)

Jamie is in a very strong group and it is hard to call who will go through to the live finals but we find out tomorrow night so Jamie Afro-We Salute You….Good Luck.

Jamie Afro Looking Cool And Funky

Jamie Afro Looking Cool And Funky

In other news this week.

LMM have supplied lots of entertainment for student nights throughout the UK.Its been Freshers fever.

Our great Kings Of Leon Tribute wowed the student audience at Middlesborough on Wednesday night (Sept 30 2009.)A packed audience went wild for the guys and the manager reported that not only were they “awesome” but also that they were a nice set of guys.as well. There is always a great atmosphere in Middlesborough Walkabout for its regular Friday night band night but apparently this student show was like seeing the Kings Of Leon but in a small veniue.

The Blings Of Leon (for it is they) have been regularly mentioned by the real Kings Of Leon in interviews after Steve Lamaque drew the bands attention to the Blings tribute act.Although there are several Kings Of Leon Tributes operating in the UK only the Blings have the real Kings Of Leon seal of approval!

Talking of Kings ….Nat King Bing And The Kings Of Schwing played a student show this week.

They played the very popular “I Love Toms Mum” night at Birmingham Walkabout where they jazzed up versions of indie and pop classics in front of 1200 students.A large crowd sang along to a swing version of “I Predict A Riot” by the Kaiser Cheifs, showed their Jazz Hands as a latin american version of The Killers “Somebody Told Me” was played and swayed around during a spirited jazz rendition of “Like A Virgin.” A great time was had by all.

Much of the performance was caught on video by a TV crew and we hope to bring you some clips in a future blog.Book this jazz swing band playing rock and indie covers by calling 08454 900515 or emailing info@lmmuk.com

Finally (and probably the biggest news of the year for most students) Dr Karl Kennedy is back on tour!!

LMM have a long history with Alan Fletcher who stars in Neighbours as DR Karl Kennedy. His UK agent is a good friend of ours and we have been involved with a couple of his tours in the past including his very first University and Nightclub tour when DR Karl fever first hit these shores.

That particular tour (back in 2003) is raw in mind because the very first night of the tour was at Sheffield Walkabout and I arrived at around 5.30 to meet and greet and supervise the sound check. At the time we were unsure of what kind of crowd would attend and on this first night we were selling tickets on the door rather than in advance.

When I arrived at The Walkabout On Carver Street in Sheffield (and remember this was at 5.30) there were already 500 or more peoplr queing to get in the venue.By the time we opened the doors at 7pm we had over 1000 people outside the venue and the road was a sea of students all hoping to get the hottest ticket in town.

This student fever for Alan Fletcher was soon picked up by Radio One and TV and Alan has been a regular guest on the Jo Whiley Live Lounge section and Edith Bowmans show on all the UK tours.

For Alan Fletchers 2009 tour LMM are very proud to have supplied the band which will back him.

The band are one of our favourites and an act who are very popular at student events, weddings, parties and at Walkabout bars.

For the purpose of the Alan Fletcher tour they are called The X Rays (in homage to the fact that they also backed Ben Nicholas AKA Stingray on a previous tour on which they were called The Rays!) but you can find them on the main LMM site as Lucas http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Lucas

Check out Lucas….they are one of the UKs best bands for weddings, university balls and parties and if you get the chance to see Alan Fletcher (AKA Dr Karl Kennedy) live then please do.You will be in for a treat. The atmosphere he generates on stage will astonish you.

Brides Guide To Wedding Ceremony Music

Dan Redding Is Just One Of LMMs Great Wedding Ceremony Live Acts

Dan Redding Is Just One Of LMMs Great Wedding Ceremony Live Acts

There is a great Urban Legend about a wedding which was doing the rounds back in the 1990s when the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie propelled Bryan Adams to number one with “Everything I Do, I Do For You.” A couple went to see the middle aged church organist and told her that the bride wanted to walk down the aisle to the sound of the Robin Hood theme tune. The organist who was a little old fashioned about these things thought it was odd but she kept her opinion to herself. On the big day the bridegroom and best man stood at the front of the packed church. The bride was resplendent in her white dress with two gorgeous bridesmaids carrying her long white train. The organist’s hands came to rest upon the keys and she began to play the jaunty theme tune to the Robin Hood show she remembered from her youth. The one parodied by Monty Python. The one that goes “Robin Hood, Robin Hood Riding through the glen, Robin Hood Robin Hood with his band of men!”

You can avoid this level of embarrassment by booking a professional musician from LMM to play music as you walk down the aisle. More and more couples are shaping their wedding ceremony to suit their tastes and personalities. Music plays a big part in making the event special and LMM have a number of different options to make your big day memorable. The following is a quick selection of some key acts who are perfect at creating that unique atmosphere which you are only able to achieve with a great live musician.

Classical Musicians For Wedding Ceremonies

The Giardino Strings http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Giardino+Strings   This fantastic classical ensemble have been a favourite at Marks And Spencer’s Bridal Fayres and are a favoured classical act here at LMM. Attractive musicians who play beautiful music.

http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Contemporary+Harpist     the unusual combination of harp and a set list made up of contemporary artistes by Rhianna , Kings Of Leon and Coldplay.

 Harp Of Gold

http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Harp+of+Gold    Traditional harp music-perfect for a wedding ceremony.

 Dolce Vocals

http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Dolce+Vocals  are two attractive, young female vocalists who are classically trained and provide great music for wedding ceremonies or drink receptions.

http://www.lmmuk.com/band/The+Blossom+Street+Singers   as well as gospel singers LMM are able to provide a number of classical choirs. It is worth considering the Blossom Street Singers to give you that perfect combination of traditional and contemporary for a wedding ceremony.

 Tim Barton

http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Tim+Barton

In the London area Tim Barton has made a real niche for himself playing wedding ceremony music at literally hundreds of weddings. He plays acoustic guitar and sings. He also has a great party band.

LMM have dozens of great acts available for wedding ceremonies and to provide music either whilst you walk down the aisle and sign the register or at a drinks reception after the wedding ceremony. June Brides Entertainment Guide

Eggs Benedict from Nat King Bing gets the Summer vibe

Eggs Benedict from Nat King Bing gets the Summer vibe

Ok so its now July and therefore the title of this blog is not perfect ….plus this blog is not just about the great bands and DJs we have available for weddings but if you are looking for a party band,a jazz band,a rock covers band,a swing band,a function band,a Rockaoke or Bandeoke band,a disco or funk covers band or a DJ or disco for a wedding,a party or event you are in the right place.Visit www.lmmuk.com for our full roster or call our office on 08454 900515 for help and advice.

If you want to know a little more about LMM and what we do then please read on.

In short LMM are the UKs best entertainment agency. We have some of the best bands in the UK working for us.We supply entertainment to well known venues like Walkabout bars ,Butlins and Bar Risa as well as to hundreds of individual clients who book bands and DJs from us for their wedding or party.Big proffessional party planners, events companies and wedding organisers use our expertise when choosing bands and DJs for their events. We are a UK company with a 12 year history of great service and long standing clients.

Now let me tell you a little about what we did in June and early July.

The sun came out and many of our bands reported beautiful evenings in lovely venues playing music at wedding across the country.I myself attended one of these weddings and sat outside on the lawn listening to Storm play a fabulous party set.Through the open doors of the marquee I could see a packed dance floor and the band bouncing around singing their anthem packed party set which appealed to the mums and dads, aunties and uncles, grans and grandads as well as the thirty something bride and groom.Sitting drinking Pims and watching this band (I am no great dancer!) creating such a fantastic atmosphere at this brilliant wedding was a highlight of June for me.  http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Storm  is the place to gather more information about great party band Storm for your wedding.

We had many bands and DJs playing at weddings throughout June 2009.Some of our acts were lucky enough to play at celebrity weddings.

We were very proud to recieve an email from Mr and Mrs Nik Kershaw after Sugar Shack played at their wedding during June.Nik Kershaw was,you may remember, a huge star in the 1980s and his hits included “Wouldnt It Be Good,” “The Riddle”,”I Wont Let The Sun Go Down On Me” etc.He also wrote hits for Let Loose,The Hollies and the massive anthem (which is still played by many LMM bands and DJs) “I Am The One And Only” for Chesney Hawkes.Despite Sugar Shack being very nervous playing for this very accomplished musician (blimey this guy played at Live Aid and has worked with Elton John amongst others) the band had a fantastic time and went down a storm. We got an email from Nik Kershaw and his wife saying that they should receive commission for all the recomendations they had passed onto their friends! If you want more info about Sugar Shack for a wedding or event check out http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Sugar+Shack

Paul Conner played at Alan Halsalls (Tyrone Dobbs from Coronation Street) to Lucy Jo Hudson (former Coronation Street and Wild At Heart actress) and even got his picture in OK magazine when he was joined on stage for an impromptu bit of Rockaoke by Andrew Whyment who plays Kirk Sutherland in Coronation Street.Paul Conner is available for weddings and parties through LMM and his profile can be found here http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Paul+Conner

LMM would like to congratulate all the couples who got married in June and early July and wish them all the best for the future. Thanks for all your kind emails and phone calls praising the entertainment at your weddings. We are very proud of the guys (and girls) working for us and we know they always put 100% into every show.Even so it is nice to get your feedback.

Besides weddings LMM are involved in lots of other activities.

We are very proud to be able to supply bands and DJs for the UK armed forces and in June and July we had a number of shows both here in the UK and overseas.Electric Mayhem continued their long standing relationship with the military by entertaining the troops at a British Forces Radio Show in Cyprus and travelling over to Germany for a run of shows.Lucas flew off to Peru in early july with CSE for another run of dates. The Zoo had a trip overseas as well (the third such trip this great North East Band have made.)Sugar Shack played dates in the UK for the  military. It is a great honour to be able to provide entertainment for our service men and women and our bands are always grateful to be able to perform for the troops. We were also able to welcome a special band into our venues in June when the house band from HMS Sydney performed for us in several Walkabout venues after LMM arranged for them to play some shows whilst the ship was docked in UK ports. It was a pleasure to have been able to host these concerts for the Australian Armed Forces.

Check these great bands out here http://www.lmmuk.com/military-balls.php and on the main LMM site here www.lmmuk.com

As the weather turned nice we were able to supply a number of live bands and DJs for events on farms (some of which were for local farmers associations.) I attended one of these myself and it was a perfect mid summer night.A warm sunny day fell into night with live acoustic music which had everyone singing along.A large bonfire was lit as darkness descended and sofas made of straw bales were stacked around the fire. The local kids played on the bucking bronco and bouncy slide. The food was provided by a hog roast. It was a truly memorable evening which was enjoyed by everyone (the barn which had been cleared for the occasion in case of rain was left empty!) Take a look here for acoustic duos and solos suitable for this type of party http://www.lmmuk.com/solos-duos.php

Space and time stop me from going into too much detail about the other events we have provided entertainment for in June 2009 but I would like to draw your attention to Nat King Bing And The Kings Of Schwing. This great band play jazz swing versions of pop and rock anthems. They are the ultimate party Jazz band. The best swing band for events and weddings. The most fun swing, jazz band in the UK.Take a look at http://www.lmmuk.com/band/Nat+King+Bing+and+The+Kings+Of+Schwing  for sound files and details of their swing jazz ttake on Michael Jacksons Bille Jean,The Killers Somebody Told Me,The Kaiser Cheifs I Predict A Riot and more. You are going to be hearing a lot more about Nat King Bing and they are perfect for any party or event.Last week they launched with several shows including dates at the Birmingham Jazz Festival (one in the daytime outside the Mailbox and one in the evening at Bluu) both shows went down a storm and people are loving the original and entertaining take on much loved songs.Nat King Bing is a one off unique act…perfect for any crowd.

I am off to Toronto on holiday (off to the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival) next week so I may not get a chance to blog until August.Look after yourselves. If you need top quality entertainment contact the LMM office on 08454 900515 or email info@lmmuk.com  we will be sure to give you the right advice and help.
