The trend in the 21st Century has been to call your night club something elemental like the Luminaire venues Lava Ignite , Liquid and Oceana or to go for something cool sounding like Gatecrasher , Cream , Space , Aura , Bar Risa , Pasha or Amnesia. Club owners have become very savvy and brand aware and when opening a multi million pound business probably get in all kinds of focus group bods in order to get the name to fit the demographic.
It was not always so!
Here are a list of the top ten worst night club names ever. Its not science. We held no surveys. We shouted across the office for suggestions. You are welcome to suggest names of your own. There is a bit of a Sheffield night club bias…this isn’t because Sheffield has any worse nightclub names than any other provincial town its just my home town and I can remember quite a few corkers from my boyhood.
1.Fannys (nightclub out in the Totley area of Sheffield beloved of BMW drivers)
2.Turn Ups ( Sheffield club …none more 70s)
3. Tramps (London posh gaffe…homeless people not allowed)
4. Barry Nobles Roxy (Again a Sheffield night club…Roxys is a pretty cool, futuristic but strangely retro name but to pre fix it with Barry Noble…that’s just wrong!)
5.Po Na Na
6. Romeo And Juliets (major cheese alert for this 80s Sheffield night spot)
7.Mr Smiths Of Warrington (the home of cult TV show hit man and her featuring Pete Waterman)
8.NNN Bar (Salisbury bar almost impossible to say when sober never mind if you have had a few)
9.CNBCN (Salisbury bar….I am seeing a pattern here!)
10. Penthouse (visions of a glamorous club but no this was a grotty Rock club in Sheffield and named after the fact that it was on the top floor of a shopping precinct.)
