Brilliant Ideas For Weddings

We were invited  to a wonderful wedding on Saturday.

I will not embarrass the happy couple by mentioning them by name but suffice to say they are the nicest people and we are proud to call them friends . Their thoughtfulness and creativity shone through in every aspect of the wedding.

The invites arrived printed on customised tea towels which left the guests with a marvelous memento of a perfect day.

The ceremony was held in an old, traditional church (truthfully if you imagine a cathedral you will picture it accurately) and as well as classical piecesplayed by church organist and choir there was a stunning moment when the bride walked down the aisle to Elbows anthemic “One Day Like This.”

The couples humour shone through with a reading of Elvis Presleys “Wonder Of You” read straight faced and brilliantly by a friend.

All these personal touches continued throughout the day with great live music and some quality DJs providing music during the reception which was held in a grand hall,Firth Court,a magnificent  part of Sheffield University.

Their creativity and thoughtfulness was particularly evident in the place settings at the wedding breakfast.

The place settings at the meal were printed onto seven inch single labels. The groom is a massive music fan and used to work in the record industry so this reflected his (and the brides) past and present love of music.A fantastic and unusual use of the vinyl.

It was only half way through the meal that one of the people sharing our table turned over his record place setting and realised that this was personalised to him.It was a Utah Saints record which is not an obvious choice unless you remember that the person sat there used to work with the Utah Saints!

He turned to his partner who is a Doctor, and sure enough, her record was Doctor Beat by Gloria Estafan. A friend who looks like Morrisey had Morriseys “November Spawned a Monster” and so on.Every single one of the 150 guests had a personalised original vinyl place setting chosen by the couple and hunted down on the Internet in order to give a talking point to the meal and another brilliant memento of a fantastic day.

We were touched and honoured to have been invited to this wonderful wedding and we took away with us a souvenier which will always remind us of this fantastic day.

Wedding Ideas-A Neighbours Wedding At Norwood Park,Southwell

Norwood Park Wedding Venue

Norwood Park Wedding Venue

I was a guest last night at a beautiful wedding held at Norwood Parkhttp://www.norwoodpark.co.uk/ .It was a very special night for my family and myself as the neighbours ,whose wedding it was, had gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure everyone at the wedding had a fantastic time. They were kind enough to invite all the families from the  row of cottages where we live and it was a great night for meeting up with the neighbours and having a few drinks and a chat in magical surroundings.

None of us had been to Norwood Park in Southwell  before (although LMM have supplied a band for a wedding there in the past.)

The wedding reception was held in the lantern lit court yard and although the weather was not great the rain held off and the heaters and the dancing kept us all warm as we settled in to watch a great nine piece band.

The day had started with bride and groom leaving the house in  VW camper vans as the villagers waved them off.A surprise aerial stunt pilot left the afternoon guests stunned.Upon our arrival for the evening do we were greeted by a range of entertainment which kept the kids and grown ups involved throughout the evening.

In addition to the fantastic jazz swing band there was an old style photo booth where guests could get their photo taken and paste it into the memory album with a message. You could also take a copy home with the date and names of the wedding couple printed on it.This was a great touch and there was a queue for the photo booth throughout the night with people coming up in various combos of family and friends for serious and daft photos.

A living statue was handing out small bubble blowers to the children (and lots of  bubble happy adults!)

A face painter was kept busy throughout the night doing every combination of Hello Kitty/horse/dolphin/shark/fairy tattoos …..by late evening one or two adults could be seen with face paintings wandering around the crowd. Our girls (age eight and ten) and the neighbours kids (ranging from three upwards) were constantly by this stall either waiting to have yet another tattoo or watching to see what everyone else was having.By the end of the evening every available bit of skin  on the kids was painted.

Perhaps my favourite touch of the evening was the pick and mix stall where old school sweets (do you remember Wham Bars , Fizz Bangs,Flying Saucers,Bazooka Joes ,Hubba Bubba Bubblegum and Strawberry Bon Bons) were laid out like the best candy store in the world (yes kids ….its all free and you can go back as many times as you want!!)

At the end of the evening we were led to the back of the grand Norwood Park House where a fire work display finished off the night in style.

All in all it was the perfect wedding.

If you are looking for somewhere to hold a reception in the Nottinghamshire area I would heartily reccomend this wedding venue. It was pure magic.

As for the small touches put in place by the bride and groom…..they were wonderful and appreciated by all the guests at the wedding.

I will not embarrass the pair of them by mentioned them by name but I can say they are a lovely couple and their amazing wedding will be a special memory for my family for a long, long time. Thanks for inviting us.
