Highlights

Great audience rapport - Kate Gieben really knows how to entertain, as well as being a fine singer
Fabulous musicianship
Something very different from your usual function band!

Act profile

Kate Gieben on vocals, Bill Kemp on drums, Grigor Leslie on bass and Col Black on guitar swing, strut and smooch their way through ballads, blues and bossas. And a touch of funk! Can also include piano (Paul Harrison or Jon Hall), and saxes (Dave Roberts or Garry Gibb). Highly accomplished musicians all, we can tailor our gigs to your requirements. Mainly standards, plus latin and some funk and pop tunes, we are definitely a jazz band with style! Have own PA system and are prepared to travel.

This band has been together and gigging regularly for 3 years, but all are seasoned professionals. We do not provide light shows, sorry!

Line-up

Kate Gieben - Vocals
Bill Kemp - Drums
Grigor Leslie - Bass
Col Black - guitar.

As above plus Piano (Paul Harison or Jon Hall), and saxophones (Dave Roberts or Garry Gibb).
Kate Gieben and Col Black, or Paul Harrison, or Jon Hall also regularly work as duos.

Happy to do gigs any time of day or night!

Also included

Simple 350 watt (2 x 175 watt), or Yamaha 250 watt PA (2x 125 watts) for smaller venues. PA's carry vocals only, usually, the other members of the band being amplified by their own equipment. We have not needed our own lights so far, and therefore have none. If required we will hire.

Location

Scotland based and will travel to these areas: Scotland.

Testimonials

Just wanted to let you know that the band on Saturday night were brilliant! They were so talented! and tailored the music to our needs, and even let us get up and sing a few songs with them! We had a lot of people dancing towards the end everyone had a great night. Many people made very positive comments about the band, we were all very impressed! The band said that they also really enjoyed themselves.

Thank you for everything! It was a great success, a 21st birthday I will certainly not forget!

Best regards
Hayley

“Bluesy jazz singer Kate Gieben wowed a capacity audience…. She socked it to us one moment and caressed our ears the next… The question is when are they coming back?”
Piper and Herald

“…Expect jazz standards, ballads, blues and robust good humour in a congenial atmosphere..”
Rab Adams, Glasgow Herald

“Kate Gieben …has developed into a fine interpreter of jazz classics, sung in a passionate and soulful way. She also has a big belter of a voice and a personality to match…”
Blairgowrie Advertiser

“Kate Gieben, the singer with the solar plexus punch in her voice…..”
Aboyne Festival Programme

“ Kate Gieben… and her band Built for Comfort (NB now called KGB) delighted the audience with her brand of big, bluesy, blousy jazz.”

“ They were magnificent collectively and individually. Each solo was a tour de force. The rapport between Kate and her band was evident, as was that between musicians and the audience.”
Donside Piper

“Accolade of the evening went to the jazz and blues performers. Kate Gieben showed us her great variety of talent…..”

“Rarely have I seen this genre of music performed with such enthusiasm, expertise and fun.”
