Act profile

Tom W. is a 25-year-old singer, songwriter and performer hailing from Nottingham, England: possessing an almost-crooning voice delivering slick and crafted classic pop songs with lyrics as sharp as his dress sense and bursting with optimism, which have drawn comparisons to Style Council-era Paul Weller and Glenn Tilbrook - leading to one critic labelling Tom as "the new Squeeze".

Honing his craft of live music entertainment throughout the past five years, over 900 shows and one vocal-chord operation, Tom has moulded himself into what the industry would call "the real deal."

June 2012 saw the long awaited release of Tom's second EP "Sweet Insanity", showcasing his natural gift for glorious sun-drenched melodies and composition inspired by his idols the Beatles and the Beach Boys. From his ode to fallen angel Brian Wilson on the title track to the veiled charm of the gorgeous "Pink Lilies" and the optimism of "California (Here I Come)" this is his most realised work yet, with guitar work on the latter coming from acclaimed Spiritualized guitarist Tony "Doggen" Foster.

Tom has worked closely with acclaimed songwriter Tim Kellet (Simply Red, Olive) and producer Steve Bush (Stereophonics) on songs for Tom's own catalogue, supported his teenage idols The Bluetones, as well as playing session guitar, most notably on songs for James Morrisson's "Songs For You, Truths For Me" album.

The 200 gigs per year Tom has averaged since 2007 have earned him a living and a significant fan base, holding residencies around England, which include the famous Roof Gardens in Kensington, London where he regularly opens and closes the live music season there. Other recent clients include Vogue Magazine, Selfridges, Mahiki and The Royal Air Force.

Tom is currently writing songs towards his debut album due for release early 2014.

Testimonials

“I absolutely love his voice” - Steve Levine (Grammy-Winning Producer, Head of The Music Producers Guild)

“Talented lad...like this tune.” - Dr. Robert (The Blow Monkeys)

"Superb, thanks for giving us a brilliant night." - Mike Ashley (Newcastle United FC Owner)

“Consistently one of our best performers” - The Roof Gardens, Kensington.

“Singer and guitarist Tom is already well known in certain areas of the live music sector and, appearing here alongside his backing musicians, he proved what a fine performer he is. An acoustic version of the soul classic My Girl certainly made for interesting listening and the set was one of the highlights of the day for this reviewer.” — The Stage Magazine, (December 2010)

"Alex,
We can not thank Tom enough for his performance at our Wedding. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed his set. Its amazing how a young man with a guitar can command a large room full of guests, he was brilliant. Here is a lovely picture of him on the night. We have already emailed Tom to say thanks.
Regards
Helen & Craig" (Wedding Sept 2010)

Absolutely superb. Never in all the years we have been having acts on for our summer balls have I seen a crowd react like they did to Tom. We will definitely be booking him for our Christmas party.

Tom W: Another Late Night EP (****)

"At the tender age of 22, local troubadour Tom has joined forces with a
cracking band, reinvented the concept of the extended play and serves up
four slices of self-penned power pop. The mellifluous All I Need
showcases our man's vocal maturity: it's dripping in harmonies and has
the deftest of guitar solos… a rarity these days.

Up next is the funky Be Another Night... all electric piano and attitude (think Good Enough by Dodgy), which begs to be heard poolside. Track three, Let Your Love Shine Out is, the sleeve notes tell me, another original. I say that only because I'd swear it was a long-lost floor-filler from Wigan Casino,
complete with an uncanny Weller-esque vocal. My Door Is Open
slows things right down and if Tom ever dreams of playing arena gigs
(and why not?), then this is the one where the lighters come out. An
assured debut, which promises good things to come."
